Overview

This training program will introduce ways to identify manual handling tasks in your workplace and determine their level of risk. Manual handling training will describe the structures in the back and identify why people get back problems, explain the procedure on how to reduce risk of injuries, and the safe manual lifting procedures.

Objectives:

At the end of the training candidates will be able to:

  • Understand the definition of manual handling and what activities the term includes.
  • Describe the structures in the back and identify why people get back problems.
  • Understand the responsibilities of employers and employees with regard to manual handling risk control procedures.
  • Understand the influence of the ‘Lever Effect’ during manual handling operations and how to use this knowledge to best advantage when moving loads manually.
  • Identify manual handling tasks in the workplace and the related risk factors.
  • Understand how to reduce risk of injuries from manual handling.
  • Understand the safe lifting procedures.
  • Understand the importance of the ergonomics in the workplace.
  • Understand what mechanical aids can be used to reduce the risk of injury from manual handling.

Target Audience

This is a manual handling course that is primarily applicable to anyone who may need to lift items as part of their duties, however the information is applicable to any workplace environment.

Certification

On completion of this course successful candidates will receive an IADC Certificate on Manual Handling.

Revalidation

There is no revalidation period for this type of training, however refresher training is recommended every 2 years
